James H. Furman

James H. Furman is a nationally recognized aviation attorney. He has represented hundreds of families in suits arising out of airline, commuter, general aviation and military air disasters. Trained as a safety officer and aviation accident investigator, he has successfully litigated many airplane, helicopter and airline cases.
Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Mr. Furman also practices in the areas of consumer and industrial product defects, negligence and business litigation. He has handled a wide variety of product liability cases, including marine, industrial and auto.

James Furman is admitted to the Texas State Bar, the U.S. District Court, Western, Northern, and Southern Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. A former combat military aviator with the U. S. Army, he attained the rank of Major. After serving for five years in the regular Army, Mr. Furman remained active in the U. S. Army Reserves for an additional 20 years. He has logged over 8000 hours flying time with the military.

Mr. Furman attended the University of South Carolina and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science, cum laude. He continued his education at the University of North Florida and obtained his M.B.A., with honors, and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas.

After law school, he served as a briefing attorney on the Texas Supreme Court. He is a member of the Aviation Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (Secretary 1993-94, Vice Chair 1994-96, Chair 1996-97), an associate of the College of the State Bar of Texas and is a member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators. Mr. Furman is also a past chairman of the American Trial Lawyers, Aviation Section.
